As I sit here contemplating tomorrow’s holiday, I’m putting the finishing touches on a few last minute projects, answering my remaining emails, and generally getting my office in a state where I won’t feel too guilty for taking a long weekend. I’m also reminded of a quote by the famous scientist Albert Einstein, “Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom.” The opportunity to labor in freedom is certainly ours and one most rarely stop to appreciate. Where would our lives be without the freedoms we enjoy and perhaps maybe even take for granted? If that’s the case, I urge you to take a few minutes tomorrow, give pause and reflect on those that gave all so that we could have all. For what is freedom but nothing else, but a chance to be better?
My responsibilities at The Cottages afford me the privilege to meet many of our veterans from WWll and now some from the Korean War. They and many that have gone on before helped to secure the very independence we will celebrate tomorrow. So, this Fourth of July you might find yourself barbecuing, congregating with loved ones and enjoying your precious free time. But it is also a time to step back, take stock and appreciate the deep freedoms we enjoy every day.
From all of us at The Cottages, Happy Independence Day!
