The Cottages of Mountain Home’s history is fascinating and was built just after The Cottages of Payette. The first Cottages location was built in Emmett, Idaho in 2001, fulfilling a need for assisted living and memory care for the community. Just one year later, The Cottages had expanded to the town of Weiser, Payette, and now Mountain Home!
The Cottages of Mountain Home’s History
As The Cottages owners saw a significant need and a warm welcome for senior living in the rural communities, they quickly filled that need by expanding to a fourth city. With Emmett, Weiser, and Payette underway, it became clear that the Mountain Home area would benefit from what The Cottages had to offer. Just one year later, 2002, The Cottages of Mountain Home held their open house. Many from the community attended, including the Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, and local residents. Below is a picture of the open house.
The Cottages of Mountain Home was structured as a one-home campus that could accommodate 16 residents. It didn’t take long before the availability was filled, as the home-like environment, delicious meals, and personalized care was very appealing to those in need of senior living. The community was and has continued to be very welcoming and supportive of The Cottages.
What Sets The Mountain Home Area Apart
The Mountain Home area was established in the early 1800’s and was visited by Lewis and Clark! The area attracted settlers where people participated in mining, ranching, farming, and sheep herding. In 1883, a train station was built, due to the water access, which allowed the steam engines to refill. The region also became known for growing and providing potatoes, wheat, corn, barley, sugar beets, and hay.
Today, one of the main things that the region is known for is the Mountain Home Air Force Base, which was built in 1942. The current 336th Fighter Wing population consists of 5,100 military and civilian members with an additional 3,500 family members.
There are many activities that draw people to the area and that The Cottages residents and team members are able to participate in and enjoy. One of the most popular events of the year is the Air Force Appreciation Day, which is one of Idaho’s largest parades. Other well known events that draw many to the area are the Mountain Home Country Music Festival and the Gunfighter Skies air show.
The area is great for the outdoor enthusiast where individuals can enjoy outdoor camping, mountain side hiking, fishing, ATV exploration, and enjoying the sand dunes! Whether you’re looking for a scenic drive or a several-day excursion, this region is perfect.
For entertainment, there is a wide range of options for shopping and dining. People frequently enjoy the local Desert Canyon Golf course, which consists of 18 holes and amazing scenery of the canyon.
