Everyday Hero
We know that every day, our staff do amazing things for our residents that are above and beyond the call of duty. These moments make a difference in our residents’ lives, and improve their quality of life! Everyday Heroes create lasting and positive change through simple acts of kindness, courage, and love. It’s so important to recognize and celebrate those special moments that often slip by without notice. We want to highlight the individuals that shine at The Cottages. Our “Everyday Hero” program will show our appreciation for those special angels and the little moments that mean so much.
Everyday Heroes create a lasting and positive change through simple acts of kindness, courage, and love. One of our core values at The Cottages is Teamwork, and we celebrate those who embody this core value. This month’s hero is Phyliss, the amazing bus driver for The Cottages. Phyliss has the opportunity to take our residents on adventures every week, they visit museums, ranches, ice cream parlors, dams, parks and many other places. She takes time to find out about locations and share the history. Most important though, she loves the residents and has become their friend. Phyliss takes time to listen to residents and takes time to share her love of the outdoors and life in general. On bus outings where one or two residents want to linger and look longer than the others, she takes the time to allow them to do so while QLCs and staff keep up with the rest. One of our residents is always talking about New Meadows and her ranch there. While on a personal camping trip near there, Phyliss took the time to get pictures of the ranch and other areas of New Meadows and then came and shared them with her. Phyliss truly fulfills the Cottages Motto of “We Treat People Right” and deserves to be honored as this month’s Everyday Hero.
Everyday Heroes create a lasting and positive change through simple acts of kindness, courage, and love. One of our core values at The Cottages is Teamwork, and we celebrate those who embody this core value. This month’s hero is Natasha, the Quality of Life Coordinator at The Cottages at Columbia Village. Natasha takes great care in making sure her residents are actively engaged, but she also is aware of what is going on around all The Cottages locations. She heard about the Cherry Festival in Emmett and that The Cottages of Emmett was creating a float for the parade. She quickly jumped in and offered to help. She created props for the float and the bus, and has gone above and beyond in sharing her artistic abilities and talents. Natasha has a huge heart and always Treats People Right.
Everyday Heroes create a lasting and positive change through simple acts of kindness, courage, and love. One of our core values at The Cottages is Teamwork, and we celebrate those who embody this core value. This month’s hero is from The Cottages of Weiser. This is from a family member of one of their residents. “Emily, on a daily basis, goes beyond her scope of duties while she is at The Cottages of Weiser. Many times a day my mother, who is currently bed bound, will be visited by Emily to make sure she is ok and doesn’t need anything. Emily attempts to have my mother eat more nutritious meals and will assist her in getting dressed when necessary. Recently my mother was assigned to physical therapy and is receiving treatment from a physical therapist. Emily has offered to walk with her, on non-therapy days, to get her more mobile. Emily also works hard on preparing meals for the residents when the cook is not working. She provides quality, good-looking meals to keep the residents looking forward to meals, in turn, keeping them healthy. Overall, Emily is a very qualified worker in your facility, and takes her job very seriously. I look forward to continuing working with her while my mother lives at The Cottages. And the truth is….if I ever had the chance to hire her for my business I would jump at the opportunity. Unfortunately, my business is in New Meadows, Idaho. She is a keeper!” Thank you for exemplifying our mission statement, We Treat People Right! Thank you for being our Everyday Hero.
Congratulations to Katy, our Emmett Cottages Administrator, for being this month’s “Everyday Hero”! Everyday Heroes create a lasting and positive change through simple acts of kindness, courage, and love. One of our core values at The Cottages is Teamwork, and we celebrate those who embody this core value.
Recently Katy attended a community event to support a fellow administrator. That administrator was unable to attend the event. Katy greeted the community partners, got things set up, and got them started. She just jumped right in and got everyone settled while others were finishing up some other things. During the presentation, a resident and team member needed assistance. Katy immediately left the presentation and assisted the resident and her team member. She also jumped right in to help with other duties. We are so impressed that Katy did what was needed to take care of our residents. She did it quietly and without fanfare. Katy had worked all day at the Emmett location and then ended up working a few more hours at this location. Katy is always willing to help with a cheerful demeanor. We know it was a little thing for her but it ensured our residents were cared for and helped another team member and our organization. Thank you Katy for exemplifying our mission statement, We Treat People Right! You are an everyday hero!
This month we would like to acknowledge Cam Hughes who works at The Cottages at Columbia Village. Cam always goes above and beyond for his residents. Families, colleagues and visitors bring up his name often as someone who is always willing to help. He’s one of the first people to volunteer to help with things like extra cleaning and duties that allowed us to re-open one of our buildings after some remodeling. He is very dependable and always willing to help cover shifts. He’s been pivotal to the success at Columbia Village, and we want to take this time to thank Cam for exemplifying our mission statement, We Treat People Right! Thanks for being our Everyday Hero!
One of our core values at The Cottages is Teamwork, and we celebrate those who embody this core value. We would like to acknowledge Jenny Hughes, The Cottages Housekeeping Coordinator as an Everyday Hero. Jenny was nominated by The Cottages of Meridian. “Jenny went above and beyond Saturday morning. She picked up and delivered paint so one of the bathrooms would be beautiful by Monday for a move-in. She is the greatest! She also came in on a Sunday to make sure the room was painted, and the bathroom completed.”
One of our core values at The Cottages is Teamwork, and we celebrate those who embody this core value. We would like to acknowledge Patti at The Cottages of Middleton. Patti took the opportunity to help one of our musicians. He had just finished performing for the residents and left for the day. A couple of hours later, a resident noticed that he was sitting in his car with his hood up. She notified the staff and Patti went outside to check on him. His battery had died. So, Patti grabbed her keys and helped him jump-start his car. We believe that Treating People Right goes for everyone, especially those who are a part of The Cottages’ entertainment group. Thank you, Patti, for exemplifying our mission statement, We Treat People Right, in the community! You are this month’s Everyday Hero!
We would like to acknowledge and send a big shoutout to Alinah Stelly at The Cottages of Middleton. We received this from a family member, “Alinah treats my father and the other residents as if they are family. She always has a smile on her face and makes residents smile. All of the employees in Middleton are wonderful, but Alinah’s personality makes my wife and I feel like my dad is with family. That is super important to us and we are extremely thankful for Alinah.” Thank you, Alinah, for exemplifying our mission statement, We Treat People Right! You are this month’s Everyday Hero!
Anicia received an everyday hero award for doing an act of kindness for the residents of Middleton. Her residents saw some people riding by on horses and one of the residents mentioned how much he loved horses and how it had been forever since he had ridden. Anicia and a co-worker ran after the people who were riding their horses and asked them if they could come back so the residents of Middleton could see them and pet them. The kind people agreed and our residents were thrilled. It was so fun to see them interacting with the horses and riders…a little thing that made a world of difference for some very special seniors in Middleton.
